Tumor Board Review: Multidisciplinary Care
A Tumor Board is a collaborative panel of highly specialized medical experts who meet regularly to review complex cancer cases. Instead of a single physician’s perspective, this multidisciplinary team pools its collective expertise to evaluate diagnoses, analyze test results, and debate treatment pathways for individual patients.
Streamlined Care Without the Stress
With the Tumor Board approach, patients do not have to undergo the exhausting process of meeting every specialized doctor individually. By handling these consultations collectively behind the scenes, we ensure you don’t have to suffer through repetitive appointments or navigate conflicting medical opinions during an already challenging illness phase.
Case Submission
Referring physicians, patients, or family members submit the complete case files including biopsy reports, imaging scans, and staging info.
Radiology & Pathology Review
Before the meeting, radiologists re-evaluate imaging scans and pathologists review tissue slides to ensure diagnostic accuracy and cancer staging.
Board Debate & Discussion
Specialists from medical, surgical, and radiation oncology present arguments, discuss sequencing, clinical guidelines, and customize treatment plans.
Unified Consensus Plan
A comprehensive consensus document detailing the agreed-upon treatment path, chemotherapy schedule, radiation targets, or surgery approach is generated.
Our Collaborative Team
Before a patient begins their very first cycle of treatment, their entire case—including imaging, biopsies, and medical history—is thoroughly reviewed and synchronized by a comprehensive team, including:
Surgical Oncologists
To assess surgical options and plan operative interventions.
Surgical ExpertsRadiation Oncologists
To determine the role, precise targeting, and dosing of radiation therapy.
Radiation Therapy ExpertsMedical Oncologists
To oversee systemic approach therapies, including chemotherapy.
Systemic Therapy ExpertsImmunotherapists & Targeted Care Specialists

Diagnostic & Imaging ExpertsSingular, Synchronized Strategy
By integrating these diverse clinical viewpoints into a singular, synchronized strategy, the Tumor Board eliminates fragmented care. This rigorous pre-treatment review guarantees a highly personalized, evidence-based protocol optimized for the best possible outcome—all while keeping the patient’s journey smooth, coordinated, and stress-free.
Why Seek a Multidisciplinary Opinion?
Every cancer patient deserves the certainty that their treatment strategy is backed by the collective expertise of multiple oncology minds.
Joint Expertise, Zero Bias
Avoids the limitations of a single physician’s perspective. Your clinical profile is debated and agreed upon by a group of highly qualified oncologists.
Optimal Treatment Sequencing
Ensures that chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy are scheduled in the sequence that maximizes the chance of full remission.
Confidence & Reduced Anxiety
Know that the suggested path has been vetted against clinical guidelines, scientific publications, and peer experience before your first cycle begins.
Reduced Delay, Rapid Decisions
Instead of scheduling separate visits with a surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation therapist over several weeks, you get a joint decision in days.
Tailored for Complex Cases
Essential for recurrent cancers, rare tumors, or patients with multiple health complications (comorbidities) where standard paths may not apply.
State-of-the-Art Alignments
Every decision is reviewed against NCCN Guidelines (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) and international oncology research for modern practices.
Board Meetings & Turnaround Deadlines
To maintain absolute efficiency and ensure patient treatment is not delayed, the Tumor Board operates on a strict weekly cycle.
The full multidisciplinary oncology board convenes every Friday at 3:00 PM to review queued patient files.
Cases must be submitted with all diagnostic files by Thursday 12:00 PM to be reviewed in the same week’s session.
The finalized, signed consensus report is generated and provided to the referring doctor or patient within 24 hours of the meeting.
Urgent & Critical Cases
For highly aggressive malignancies or emergency situations requiring immediate treatment starts, we call an extraordinary emergency Tumor Board review outside the regular weekly schedule.
Tumor Board FAQs
Answers to common questions about multidisciplinary oncology reviews and the referral process.
What exactly is a Tumor Board meeting? expand_more
A Tumor Board meeting is an academic and clinical conference where medical experts from different disciplines (surgical, medical, and radiation oncology, along with pathologists and radiologists) sit together to review a cancer patient’s diagnostic results and treatment options. The goal is to reach a unified consensus on the most effective care plan.
Can patients or family members attend the board meeting? expand_more
No, the board meetings are technical clinical discussions restricted to medical professionals. This allows the specialists to discuss complex diagnostic slides and scans in detail. However, the patient’s primary oncologist will explain the board’s collective recommendation to the family in detail and supply a written consensus report.
Is there a fee for getting my case reviewed by the Tumor Board? expand_more
For patients registered and undergoing treatment at Aveksha 21st Century Cancer Hospital, regular Tumor Board reviews are conducted as part of our core standard of care at no additional charge. For external second opinions, a nominal administrative review fee is charged. Contact our helpline for specific details.
